The Challenge

The community of Beloit, Kansas, set out to upgrade the aging running track at Trojan Stadium into a modern, high-performance athletic facility. Their goal was to install a durable running track system that would serve students and athletes for decades while maximizing the value of the community’s investment.

To make the vision possible, the Trojan Stadium Improvement Campaign was launched to raise funds for a safe, high-quality facility that could host school athletics, community gatherings, and regional events. As support for the project grew, the USD 273 Beloit Educational Foundation expanded the project’s scope to include a synthetic turf football field. They knew these upgrades would provide long-term cost savings, eliminate future disruptions to the new track, and create a complete, low-maintenance athletic complex for the Beloit community.

Key Facts

The district chose to work with Nemaha through the Interlocal Purchasing System (TIPS), resulting in a smooth transition to preconstruction.

Nemaha guided the district through the decision to install a post-tensioned concrete running track, educating school leaders on how its long-term durability, low maintenance, and lifetime performance benefits aligned with their needs.

Nemaha's self-perform experience allowed the team to work extended hours, overcome project delays, and complete the project on time for the Homecoming Game. *The track was striped shortly thereafter.

Challenge Met

To move the project forward efficiently, the district selected Nemaha Sports Construction through a cooperative purchasing contract with the Interlocal Purchasing System (TIPS). This approach streamlined the procurement process, saving valuable time, and ensuring a smooth transition from preconstruction to construction.

Nemaha worked closely with the district to identify key priorities, ensuring construction would not interfere with the 8-Man All-Star Football Championship and that the new facility would be delivered in time for Homecoming.

Despite several environmental challenges and a shortened construction window, Nemaha’s experienced team maintained focus on quality and deadlines. They leveraged the crew’s self-perform capabilities and worked extended hours to complete the synthetic turf field and post-tensioned concrete running track on time.

The completed Matous Family Sports Complex now stands as a testament to community collaboration and Nemaha’s commitment to building high-quality athletic facilities. It also marks the fastest project turnaround achieved by Boyd Crane, one of Nemaha’s leading superintendents of nearly 30 years.
