





Pipe Layer
Department: Nemaha Infrastructure
Job Type: Non-exempt, Seasonal Full Time
Reports To: Utilities Superintendent
The Pipe Layer is responsible for installing underground piping systems for water, sewer, and storm drainage projects. This position works as part of a construction crew and requires physical labor in a variety of outdoor conditions. The role is seasonal, following the construction season, and involves frequent travel to job sites, which may require overnight stays.

Responsibilities
Pipe Installation
- Laying pipes of various materials, sizes, and configurations in the trenches.
- Aligning pipes accurately and ensuring proper slope and grade.
- Connecting pipes using appropriate methods like gluing, welding, or mechanical couplings.
- Using hand and power tools, and specialized equipment for pipe fitting and joining.
Joint Sealing and Backfilling
- Sealing pipe joints to prevent leaks and ensure proper system functionality.
- Backfilling trenches with soil, compacting it properly to support the pipes and prevent settling.
- Using hand tampers, rollers, or compactors for backfilling and compaction.
Safety and Compliance
- Working in compliance with all safety regulations, including OSHA standards for trenching and confined spaces.
- Following company safety policies and procedures.
Other Responsibilities
- Operating equipment like lasers and leveling tools for accurate pipe alignment.
- Assist equipment operators, laborers, and other crew members as needed.
- Maintain tools, equipment, and work areas in a clean and safe condition.
- Travel frequently to project locations; overnight stays may be required.
- Determines equipment and material needs for each assignment
- Assembles pipes, tubes, and fittings according to specifications
- Inspects, examines, and tests installed systems to ensure quality construction if required
- Identify and resolve construction site problems

Physical demands require constantly moving, walking, stooping, kneeling, crouching, or crawling. Frequently ascends/descends a ladder or steps to perform work.

Working Environment
This position will require working outdoors in various weather conditions (heat, cold, rain, etc.) and exposure to job site elements. This can include moderate noise, extreme proximity to moving equipment or machinery, proximity to electrical energy, and exposure to tools, dust, noise, and heavy machinery used in construction. The use of personal protective equipment (PPE) is required.
