The Challenge
Lewiston, Nebraska — a village of just 54 residents — faced a unique situation. A generous anonymous donor stepped forward with a vision: build something special for the community, not just another basic running track. The challenge was to create a facility that truly set Lewiston apart, while addressing long-term concerns from community members about maintenance and future costs.

Key Facts
An anonymous donor partnered with the Nebraska Community Foundation to fund a transformative project for Lewiston's consolidated school.
Lewiston, a village of fewer than 50 residents, now has one of the few post-tensioned concrete running tracks in the region.
The post-tensioned system offers a lifespan two to three times longer than asphalt, ensuring durability without burdening future generations with costly replacements.
Nemaha guided community leaders through life-cycle comparisons, helping them choose a high-performance, future-focused solution.
Challenge Met
Nemaha proposed a post-tensioned concrete running track — a system with two to three times the lifespan of traditional asphalt. By walking community members through the life-cycle costs and maintenance requirements, Nemaha helped them see that this solution would not burden future generations with expensive repairs or replacement. The result was a one-of-a-kind facility for a town its size, balancing the donor’s vision with the community’s desire for lasting value.
