The Challenge

Wayne State College needed to modernize its athletic facilities to better serve student-athletes and fans. Both the Wildcat Stadium football field and the adjacent soccer field featured natural grass surfaces that were difficult to maintain and vulnerable to weather-related issues. The soccer field, in particular, suffered from poor drainage, leading to water accumulation and limited field availability. Additionally, outdated seating, fencing, and site infrastructure no longer met the college’s expectations for safety, appearance, or spectator experience. The challenge was to upgrade both fields with minimal disruption while addressing site-specific issues and delivering long-term performance.

Key Facts

Nemaha converted both the Wildcat Stadium and soccer field at Wayne State College from natural grass to high-performance synthetic turf.

A custom-engineered drainage system was installed on the soccer field to eliminate water accumulation and improve field durability.

The projects included expanded seating, improved sightlines, new fencing, retaining walls, and site paving to enhance safety, accessibility, and the fan experience.

Challenge Met

Nemaha partnered with Wayne State College to deliver a comprehensive sports field renovation, converting both fields to high-performance synthetic turf. In 2013, Nemaha completed the Wildcat Stadium field conversion, overcoming unforeseen underground obstructions during excavation by working collaboratively with campus staff to maintain project timelines and budget.

In 2023, Nemaha returned to renovate the adjacent soccer field, installing an enhanced sports field drainage system to eliminate standing water and extend the turf lifespan. The project also included expanded spectator seating, improved sightlines, new perimeter fencing, retaining walls, and site paving, transforming the area into a modern, visually appealing athletic complex that supports year-round use.
